What an ICP report actually tells you
An ICP test is a snapshot of your water's elemental makeup at the moment you sealed the vial — major ions, nutrients, and trace elements down to parts-per-billion. It's the most detailed picture of your water chemistry you can buy. It is also, on its own, just numbers: a report can't know that your “elevated” figure is explained by your salt mix, or that a trace metal creeping upward points at a specific piece of equipment in your sump.
The results people misread
Out-of-range doesn't always mean act. Some elements sit naturally higher with particular salt mixes; some depletions matter enormously for SPS and barely at all for a softie tank; some trace-metal elevations are noise, and some are an early warning about hardware. Context is the whole game — and context is exactly what a lab report doesn't have.
